Camiguin 2012

As promise to discover the islands of the Philippines (it's more fun in the Phililippines), our yearly getaway drive us to Camiguin.
3 August, Manila to Cagayan de Oro via Cebu Pacific. Fearing the rainy weather in Manila, we landed to a good and sunshiny weather in Mindanao.

Statue of Divine Mercy in El Salvador outside Cagayan de Oro City
Arriving around past 8am in CDO, we still have time to go around the city before going to the terminal shuttling us to Camiguin, which is around 12.30nn. The van driver, Mang Jojo, brought us to the Statue of Divine Mercy, a 50ft tall statue of Jesus Christ

Mambajao Town Hall and Municipal Library
Around 7pm we reached the island of Camiguin. At the port, we were asked to stepped down from the shuttle van and go to the "foot bath" (you will just step on a wet rug). They say stepping on the rug you will come back to Camiguin again.

Grilled Malasugui (Marlin) at Sto. Nino Cold Spring
You can have lunch in Sto. Nino Cold Spring, there are people who can cooked for you. For us we had 1 kilo of malasugui, grilled and sinigang.

Katibawasan Falls in Camiguin
250 feet high. Entrance is 30 pesos

Motorella, the daily transportation in Camiguin
Going around town you can ride the Motorella, a jeepney like commuter vehicle, 8 pesos/person. FYI, there is no nightlife in Camiguin, so staying late in town center is not advisable if you don't have your own car. Motorella are only visible until 8.30pm on weeknights, earlier in weekdays. Second option at night is the habal-habal (sigle motorcycle)

Old Catarman Church Ruins

Sunken Cemetery

Camiguin Island

Old houses along J.P. Rizal St. in Mambajao
Kuya Dale, our vios driver, said this house was used as hospital in the movie "Ikaw lamang ang Mamahalin" (starring Jomari Yllana and Gelli de Belen, which made Camiguin more famous)

Near the Mambajao Public Market

Rotonda near Mambajao Public Market

White Island, Camiguin

Vjandep Parola
There are few restaurants in Mambajao but townsfolk often goes to Vjandep parola restaurant. Try their mango shake!

How to get there:
Manila to Cagayan de Oro City via Cebu Pacific or PAL
from CDO, go to Agora Bus Terminal, either ride the bus going to Butuan. Get off at Balingoan Port and ride the ferry going to Camiguin
Or find the shuttle van that goes directly to Camiguin (stop at Mambajao town--contact Vjandep Pastel--I recommend this, it's hassle free)

Where to stay:
You can stay in town center in Mambajao or beach area near White Island

Though this was my 3rd time in the country I Was stressed-out because i did most of the preparations, siempre one wrong move can result into a "que horror" moment. eh i'm  the kind of person na feeling ko laging may palpak in everything i do. in short i don't trust  myself. but things turned out ok and we were able to returned home safely (and learned lot of new ideas).
